Yes, this is negative, but on my book blog site I posed the question "What is the worst book you've ever read (or author)? Because good recommendations are just as valid as bad ones! Of course we tend to read books in the genre that we like. And, I can't sustain attention if a book is really horrible. I toss it aside or give it away. Here are some of the responses:
THE TWILIGHT SERIES (listed by more than one person)
THE LOST SYMBOL
GERMILA
KAROLINE
CITIZEN GIRL
MERMAID CHAIR
AUTHORS PEOPLE DIDN'T CARE FOR
STEPHEN KING
JAMES HERBERT
SO, WHAT IS THE WORST BOOK/BOOKS/AUTHORS YOU'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED?

You already know what I think is the worst book I've ever read- but as for a distant second, it was a romance novel my book club decided to read, just so we can discuss the genre. It was just terrible writing, one-dimensional characters, and awful sex scenes. I'd take Lawrence any day.
Oh, and it was called "Hot Streak."
This is a tough question, because if a book starts to suck, I'll usually abandon it without thought and move on...
Recently, the Bill Watterson biography by Nevin Martell (Looking for Calvin and Hobbes) was a huge disappointment and poorly written. I think, in trying to dredge my memory, I got an autobiography (obviously ghost-written) by some special forces nutjob with wild claimed of being an "unofficial" rogue agent that infiltrated different countries for black-ops missions that are, by their nature, completely unverifiable. That was was a festering turd... don't know why I finished that one... took a quick run through Amazon looking for it, but came up empty. Which means I just wasted all this comment space! Sorry...
Citizen Girl was mine, and after checking out Amazon reviews after I (had attempted to) read it, a lot of people shared the same opinion. I'm not one to give bad reviews, but in all honesty, it was terrible.
